“During a recent cold snap, I had an overnight flame-out on my gas furnace that wouldn’t re-ignite. I contacted Howell’s early the next morning and they immediately dispatched a technician, Matt Banton, to address my issue.
Upon arrival Matt got right to work and isolated the cause of the flame-out. He fully described the reasons behind the problem and the steps he took to get it resolved. Additionally, he offered to me some simple tips that would potentially help avoid flame-out issues in the future.

“Had a new heat pump (American Standard) installed two months ago by Howell's which failed due to faulty compressor. My 91-yr old sister lived in the apartment where the new system was installed. Howell's couldn't give us a time period to get a replacement air compressor due to a backorder condition at the manufacture's facility. Howell's did come out and install a portable AC to cool my sister's bedroom, and the gentleman who installed the portable was extremely nice, helpful and through. The bedroom is cool but the rest of the apartment, kitchen and living room, are hot. We have been experiencing extremely hot humid weather and expect more hot weather all summer, and it's hard on my sister to live in such conditions. I feel that Howell's should find another alternative to correct this problem other than tell me that we will have to live with this until the backorder can be cleared. I have been a faithful customer of Howell's for many years and feel like the company is throwing up their hands with the "nothing we can do" attitude. I trusted Howell's to install a quality heat pump and stand behind any problem encountered due to their heat pump recommendation and installation. I've been extremely disappointed and fear for my sister's health if this condition lasts much longer.”

“My husband and I had an extremely favorable experience with Howell's Heating & Air! We had already gotten estimates from a couple of other companies regarding installing new upper and lower heat pump systems and a sunroom mini split before meeting with Bryce Winston, but Bryce seemed to be more heedful of our needs and concerns in specific areas of our house, including the basement. He broached ways to fix these issues, while other companies failed to address them at all. We also felt he was very honest with his recommendations and did not try to upsell us a system we did not need. We were given a time frame of three days to complete the job, and from the first day to the third, the Howell's team showed up on time in the morning and worked until that day's job was complete. We have worked with a number of contractors since moving into our home eight years ago, but Phillip (the AOR Installation Supervisor), Miles and Josh were by far the most respectful crew to have working in our home. They were efficient, hard-working, and willing to address any concerns or requests that I had without hesitation. The electrician on our job was great as well. A couple of small issues arose during our heat pump installation due to the age of our home (electrical and structural), but these items were properly addressed without any additional charge to us. I'm normally very stressed out when people are working in our home, but these guys were pleasant and made the job as painless as possible for us. We have been enjoying our new heating and cooling systems in all areas of our house and are so glad we decided to go with Howell's! “Howell’s is the best! We had a severe rain storm last night and lost power. This morning our downstairs heat pump was not working. After checking what I could, I called Howell’s for assistance. Within two (2) hours a service person, “CL” , was at our home. He discovered water had entered our crawl space and caused our condensation pump to burn out. CL had to crawl through a few inches of water to get to the pump and circulator unit to diagnose and correct the problem. He did a great job and fixed the problem but what was so impressive was his professional demeanor and approach. We have used Howell’s for years. They have put a new heat pump in our old house and the house we are in now. We have always signed up for their maintenance twice a year. The individuals that have come have been very professional and knowledgeable. They go about doing their work, but will always take the time to answer any questions and will let us know if we need something and why. On a couple of occasions we have had to call on the weekends. Our calls have been answered quickly and if the problem can’t be solved over the phone, the tech will be right out. I recommend Howell’s whenever I have the chance.

In a nutshell, we are long time customers of Howell’s. The most recent experience says it all. Email to website at 11:30pm on the first frigid night-Help! Heat not working correctly! Return call from office at 7:15am. Technician at 8:30am. Toasty warm by 10:00am. Kind & professional employees. There is no room on our go-to list for anyone but Howell’s. And, yes, we have tried many others in Richmond.

Howell’s Heating and Air was a significant upgrade to our previous experience with an HVAC company. The previous company, very small and probably not licensed, left us in a life-threatening situation. They installed an incorrect system under our home and then never completed the venting. We had carbon monoxide venting under our home all winter instead of being vented outside the foundation. We were very fortunate that we didn’t end up with Carbon Monoxide Poisoning or worse.

When Howell’s and other HVAC companies came to evaluate our situation, Howell’s response stood out from the rest as they gave us multiple options on how to resolve the situation as well as providing a very competitive quote.

Howell’s completed their work in a timely and efficient manner. Henrico County inspected their work and was very complimentary of the craftmanship. The inspector commented that Howell’s very rarely has any issues with their work. Finally, when the new system needed a few tweaks after the first couple of months, Howell’s came out in very short order and addressed our concerns. All in all, a very positive experience working with Howells. I recommend Howell’s and Brice Winston to anyone that is looking for an honest, straight-forward HVAC partner.
