What's the Best Temperature to Heat Your Home?

Posted by Howell's Heating & Air on October 18, 2016

This week may not be the best indicator, but temperatures are actually on the decline. Before we know it, Winter will be in full swing and we'll awake to ice on our windshields. We will also start turning on the heat to keep us toasty inside. For most of us, this results in higher utility bills, so don't forget to adjust your thermostat to the optimal temperature for warmth and savings!

Programming a Thermostat

Best Indoor Home Temperatures

For most people, 68° degrees is ideal if you don't have a programmable thermostat. If you do, adjusting it by 5° degrees when you're sleeping or not at home can save you money on your heating bill - and keep you warm just when you need it most:

Time

Temp

Wake 6:00 am

68°

Leave 8:00 am

63°

Return 6:00 pm

68°

Sleep 10:00 pm

63°

Always remember to keep your setting on "Auto", so your thermostat only runs when necessary.

Maintain Your Heating System

With winter on the horizon, it's import to make sure that it's working properly. Semi-annual hvac tune-ups not only insure your system is ready to handle the brutal cold, but can also help your system to be more efficient, therefore reducing home heating costs that may increase when a system has to work harder than necessary to do it's job.
